What these terms cover

These terms govern use of spanlab.co.uk and the work SPAN LAB takes on.

SPAN LAB is a design and build studio registered in England and Wales. The terms apply to businesses engaging us for website design, build, and ongoing management.

By using the site or agreeing to a written scope, you accept them.

Use of this site

You may use this site for lawful purposes only.

Don’t try to gain unauthorised access to any part of it, and don’t scrape or harvest content without our written consent.

Anything harmful, offensive, or unlawful — through a form, email, or any other channel — isn’t acceptable here.

Our services

SPAN LAB designs, builds, and actively manages websites for independent UK businesses on a monthly retainer.

How engagements work — bundles, add-ons, pricing, and what’s included — is set out on the Services page.

The final scope, cost, and timeline are confirmed in writing before any work starts. We reserve the right to decline any enquiry.

Starting an engagement

Work starts once you’ve agreed the written scope.

Before the build begins, we spend a short time on a screen-share setting up the services your site will need, all in your name and on your accounts:

• Domain registrar
• Booking platform
• Email sender

The first retainer payment is due on the go-live date confirmed in the written scope.

Billing and payment

The retainer is billed monthly in advance from go-live.

Prices are in GBP.

We’ll give at least 30 days’ notice of any price increase, and you can cancel before it takes effect.

Cancelling the retainer

Founding Clients

The first three engagements have a 6-month minimum with a walk-at-month-3 exit valve. If the retainer is not earning its keep by month 3, you can end the engagement with no further obligation.

After the minimum term

Either side can end the retainer with 30 days’ written notice to hello@spanlab.co.uk. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.

On exit

The extract tool produces a clean copy of your code and data, and we remove our access from all your accounts. Everything that is yours stays yours.

What you own

Your code, your data, and every client-facing service — domain, booking, email sender — are yours from day one, set up in your name.

At any point, SPAN LAB can run the extract tool and hand you a clean, runnable copy of your site on infrastructure you own.

Your content — text, images, logos — is yours throughout. The managed platform infrastructure underneath is SPAN LAB-operated for the duration of the engagement.

If SPAN LAB disappeared tomorrow, the extract tool means your site would keep running. You’re never dependent on us to keep it yours.

Late payment

If a payment fails, we’ll let you know and try to resolve it.

• At 14 days past due, we may pause work and suspend the live site.
• At 60 days past due, we may end the engagement and follow the handover process above.

Your responsibilities

• Provide content and feedback in reasonable time so we can deliver to the agreed timeline.
• Make sure anything you send us — text, images, logos — is yours to use and is not unlawful, infringing, or defamatory.
• Keep your login credentials secure.
• Use any portal or editor for lawful purposes only.

Limitation of liability

SPAN LAB’s liability is limited by law to the amount you paid in the 12 months before any claim arose.

We are not liable for:

• Indirect or consequential losses.
• Loss of data outside the written scope.
• Short interruptions caused by maintenance or third-party outages.

None of this applies to liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or anything else that English law will not let us exclude.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time.

If a change materially affects existing clients, we give at least 30 days’ notice by email before it takes effect. You may cancel before the change applies.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

Any disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
